City high school student launches new RFB weekly teen music program
Radio Free Brooklyn is furthering its goal to be a community platform for independent artists and producers with the launch of a new show today produced and targeted to teens.
Teens take the Mic is the first of its kind on the network, and was an idea pitched by the show’s host, local high school student Sam Rapkiewicz. TTTM will feature awesome underground young bands and musicians from around the five boroughs and around the world, as well as others involved in the music industry from producers to record store owners.
“Radio Free Brooklyn is thrilled to add this unique show to its lineup, and to give voice to young people on our platform,” says News and Community Engagement Director Orie Givens. “The idea of a show featuring the youth music scene is exciting and will be an excellent platform for great music and insight from teens.”
Rapkiewicz is a musician in her own right, with a background in classical music including participation in the Felix Culpa String Quartet with the New York Youth Symphony, and she is a bassist in the all-girl band Paper Cranium.
Her show debuts at 7:00 PM and will air every Wednesday on Radio Free Brooklyn. If you know of an awesome teen band or musician, or other teens involved in the music industry, you can reach out to Rapkiewicz at firstname.lastname@example.org.
