Shades of Dating brings queer men of color to forefront of conversation

Queer State of Mind aims to give a voice to the voiceless, amplifying the views and perspectives of queer people of color. Now they’re bringing that experience and shade to the live stage in a special panel discussion, Shades of Dating.

This event on Monday, March 26th at 7pm invites the community to talk about their experiences in dating in an open, panel and town hall format. QSOM hosts will share their experiences in a question and answer session moderated by QSOM’s Saidue Karmo and special guest emcee The Advice Diva Robbyne Kaamil.

Kaamil is a big supporter and friend to the show, having been a guest co-host multiple times and participated in our Radio Free Brooklyn Pride Spectacular. She is a performer of all types and dating columnist who will bring her witty, fun and real perspective to audiences.

The audience is invited to share their experiences as well, allowing everyone to have a platform to discuss a prime topic in our culture. Discussion topics will include racism in dating, sex on the first date, fetishization and more.

The event is meant to educate and enlighten one another with experience and perspective, and provide queer people of color a forum to discuss

“We have all had varied experiences in the dating world and this opportunity is a healthy way to talk about those experiences and how we can promote positivity in the dating culture of queer men of color,” says Queer State of Mind executive producer Orie Givens. “We all have these questions, but rarely do we get an opportunity to talk about them in a public forum with people like us.”

Join the gang for the Queer State of Mind live event Shades of Dating, with a fab dance party after, at Footlight Bar on March 26th. Event starts at 7 at 465 Seneca in Ridgewood. $5 donation to support Radio Free Brooklyn and programs like this encouraged at the door.
