About Matt Attack

The Rodent Hour is an homage to the friends that Matt Attack made during his misspent youth, those lifelong friends who joined him on those weekend nights so many years ago and whose eclectic tastes still influence the selection of artists and music that is featured on the show.

Matt’s love of music is bred in bone, as he spent his high school and college years watching the emergence of the Canadian independent music scene in the northern city of Edmonton, Alberta.  Long winter nights were spent in the middle of a thundering local music scene while the  university radio station – CJSR – brought in emerging acts still on the bus to the big time.  The Shakin’ Pyramids, D.O.A., NoMeansNo, The Blasters, X, The Hoodoo Gurus, Teenage Head, Rank and File along with locals SNFU, Troc ’59, Route 66, Jerry Jerry and the Sons of Rhythm Orchestra and The Thieves … every weekend… and Matt saw it all in one of the greatest origin stories a future radio host could ever wish for.

Fifteen years after arriving in Brooklyn he continues to be a tireless advocate for the independent musicians that still play with the ferocity and intensity he grew up listening to.
